Background: Sore throat is a discomfort, itching, quiet voice, or irritation of the throat that frequently gets worse when swallows. Up to 62 percent of patients worldwide experience postoperative sore throat after general anesthesia. Postoperative sore throats reduce patient satisfaction, and it can also increase the demand for adjuvant pain medication in the post- anesthesia care unit to minimize postoperative sore throat. Despite its status as most of the time self-limited, it has the potential to cause severe postoperative morbidity and patient unhappiness.
