Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the participation of rural children in entrepreneurial activities. It aimed at determining the level of children participation and their attitudes towards entrepreneurial activities. The success of entrepreneurial contribution of the children depends on how they view or perceive their participation, the various aspects describing their participation, and the beliefs they form on those attributes. The relationship between the level of children’s participation in entrepreneurial activities and socio-economic characteristics of the children and their parents were also determined and established. 120 rural children between the ages of 7 and 12 and 120 parents were proportionately and randomly sampled from six rural communities using a pre-tested interview schedule. Results revealed that both children and their parents had favorable attitude towards the children’s participation in entrepreneurial activities. The age, educational level, parental dependency, and attitude of children towards entrepreneurial participation were found to be major significant contributive factors to the children’s participation coupled with their parents’ age, income per month and number of children among others.
