Effect of Adoption of Rope and Washer Water-Lifting Technology on Household Income: The Case of Chencha Zuria District, Gamo Zone Southern Ethiopia

The adoption of rope and washer water-lifting technology is influenced by several factors though it is suitable, easy to operate and maintain, and is multipurpose technology. The main objective of this study is to assess the status of adoption Rope and Washer water-lifting Technology and its Effect on household income. Data were collected by employing quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques like household survey, focus group discussion and key-informants. Quantitative data were collected by semi-structured interview schedule administered on 85 purposively selected adopters and 102 randomly selected non-adopters. Descriptive statistical techniques were employed to identify major crop types grown by using water-lifting technology. Ordinary Least Square model was employed to analyze the effect of adoption of Rope and Washer water-lifting Technology on household income. Descriptive statistics result showed that cabbage, carrot, red beet, garlic and apple were major crop types grown by water-lifting technologies. Ordinary Least Square regression result showed that rope and washer water-lifting technology adoption had a positive and significant contribution to household income at 5% significance level with P-value 0.000 by which adopters accessing ground water easily to irrigate vegetable and fruit were better-offs than non-adopters. Taking determinant factors and significant effect of rope and washer water-lifting technology to household income into account, Government Organizations and Non- Government Organizations s should pay due attention to promote rope and washer water-lifting technology hereafter in the study area.
