Reasons for seizures of small ruminant meat at the Maradi cold-storage Slaughterhouse

The foodstuffs of animal origin are a main source of protein for the population of Niger in general and that of the city of Maradi in particular. Our study was carried out at the refrigerated slaughter house of Maradi during a period of three (3) months from July to September. The aims of this study was to contribute to the improvement of public health. A total, of 3,769 heads of animals Slaughtered during this study including 2163 heads of sheep and 1606 heads goat. Our results show that: congestion (36, 14%), parasitic cyst (25.06%), abscesses (11.30%), and emphysema (11.92%) dominate. The pathologies recorded are dominated by oesophagostomosis (48.70%) and echinococcosis (33.77%). These investigations were carried out in the refrigerated slaughterhouse of Maradi, in order to contribute to enrich the scientific sphere, but also to identify the dangers, sources of disease in humans and to provide our doctors with a lead to improve public health.
