The goal of this study is to learn more about the status and factors that influence the up taking of improved rice varieties in Fogera plain, which is a well-known rice farming area in Ethiopia. A total of 155 rice-producing households were chosen through a systematic random sampling method. Simple descriptive statistics like mean, frequency, percentage, and standard deviation were used to characterize the sample households, whereas the determinants were investigated using a binary logistic regression model. Despite the availability of a number of improved rice varieties assumed to be suitable to the study area, up taking status of improved rice varieties were found to be very low, which is only 16 percent; with the exception of Shaga variety which is getting higher acceptance and competing the local X Jigna with respect to different rice traits. Age, education level, and rice farming experience of household heads, land ownership, and road and credit accessibility were identified as factors affecting uptake status of improved rice varieties directly or indirectly, thereby contributing to X Jigna's domination over many improved varieties. Herforth, providing youth-oriented extension service, implementing farmers' field school, improving road infrastructure, and devising research procedure on variety development process that considers farmers' preferences forwarded as recommendations to have a wider use of rice technological innovation in conjunction with other institutional innovations and thereby improving the lives of smallholder farmers and the national economy.
