REVEALING EXPRESSION OF R GENES HOMOLOGUES AGAINST CLCUV IN GOSSYPIUM ARBOREUM AND G. HIRSUTUM COTTON GENOTYPES

Cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV) is a major threat, limiting the fiber yield in Gossypium hirsutum. Resistance (R) genes are present in G. arboreum against this virus but these R genes are yet not known. Some resistance gene analogs (RGAs) of nucleotide binding site leucine rich repeats (NBS-LRR) have been reported in G. hirsutum. In the present study, RGAs from G. hirsutum and ESTs predicted as cell surface receptor genes (STK and LRR) from G. arboreum were used for expression analysis of R genes homologues. For this purpose, specific primers were designed to perform RT-PCR of six cotton genotypes. Our results have revealed the expression pattern of R gene homologues in CLCuV symptomatic and asymptomatic cotton plants. The expression of R genes homologues was variable among the cotton genotypes under CLCuV infestation. RGAs and ESTs homologues showing expression in G. arboreum and asymptomatic plants of G. hirsutum may be the important to find genes involved in CLCuV resistance.
