The copper (II) complex of 1, 3-diphenyl-1, 3-propanedione (dbm) and its adducts with 2, 2-bipyridine (bipy) and 1, 10-phenantroline (phen) were synthesized. They were characterized by micro analytical data, infrared and ultraviolet (UV)-visible spectra and magnetic susceptibility data. The kinetics of the formation of the complex follows a rapid pre-equilibrium in which the rate is independent of the metal concentration, suggesting an interchange associative mechanism.
