Abstract

Developing countries lack enough human and financial resources, making it difficult for them to respond adequately to the population's essential health needs. Using digital applications to promote the rational use of medicines presents a solution to increase the health system's efficiency and encourage saving limited medicinal resources. This project aimed to develop a drug database completed with equivalence search and prescription analysis options as a contribution to the rational use of medicines in Burkina Faso. Subsequently, the digital application developed was called “APURMED”. The journey towards achieving this objective revealed the importance of this clinical decision support tool but also revealed the remaining challenges. Among these, is constant adaptation to the evolving needs and contexts of patients and science, to increase the advantages while minimizing the disadvantages.

Key words: Digital application, rational use of medicines, drug database, equivalence search option, prescription analysis options.
