Aceclofenac is practically insoluble in water, potent non-steroidal analgesic anti-inflammatory drug, with mean maximum plasma concentration of 6.8 mg/L and mean elimination half-life values between 3.5 and 6.2 hours. It was successfully formulated in solid and liquid suppositories using non-ionic surfactants as Spans, Tweens, Witepsols, Suppocires and Brij and also muco-adhesive polymers as Methyl cellulose, Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and Polyvinylpyrrolidone. The polymers and the drug have been exposed to prefomulation tests which include Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and ultraviolet scanning (UV). Full statistical design succeeded in optimization and evaluation of the main effects and interaction effects of the formulation of the ingredients. The predicted values of the formulae were close to be observed values which confirm the success of the applied optimization process.
