Pharmacological activities of Ballota saxatilis Sieber ex C. Presl.: A short review

The genera Ballota (Lamiaceae family) distributed mainly in the Mediterranean area, Middle East, and North Africa. From ancient times, various species of this genera are used in traditional medicine for their biological properties such as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, anti-malaria, insecticidal, etc. Various phytochemical investigations identified a large number of flavonoids and other metabolites and revealed that diterpenoids are the main constituents of this genus. This review, includes medicinal uses, chemical profiles and biological properties of Ballota saxatilis Sieber ex C. Presl. and their subspecies.
