Full Length Research Paper
Abstract
This article investigates the interregional ramifications of West African coups and their implications for the East African Community (EAC) security strategy. The paper uses a rigorous analytical approach based on empirical evidence and theoretical underpinnings to understand the complex dynamics of political upheaval and its spillover consequences on regional security systems. The investigation focuses on the causal links between political instability in West Africa and associated developments in security paradigms within the EAC. The research seeks to determine both direct and indirect effects of West African coups on the East African security scene through a thorough examination of historical data, government documents, and scholarly discourse. Methodologically, this study uses a comparative method to contrast different socio-political circumstances and security regimes in West and East Africa. The research intends to uncover subtle patterns of interregional influence and strategic adaptation by systematically examining the structural vulnerabilities and resilience capacities of EAC member states' ability to respond to external security shocks. Furthermore, the research examines the effectiveness of current mechanisms for interregional cooperation and conflict resolution within the EAC framework in minimizing the trans boundary security concerns posed by political instability in West Africa. Drawing on views from key stakeholders and security professionals, the study identifies potential paths for strengthening regional solidarity and creating collective resilience in the face of emerging security concerns. Finally, this study's findings add to a more nuanced understanding of the complex interplay between West African political processes and East African security imperatives. By highlighting the numerous features of interregional security interdependence, the study emphasizes the importance of increased collaboration and proactive policies in ensuring regional stability and prosperity in the face of changing geopolitical realities.
