The study examines the nature of migration in the African continent. A theoretical review of the impact of migration on the continent reveals two antagonistic consequences. On the one hand are the optimistic propositions, while on the other are the pessimistic suppositions fiercely debating the desirability or otherwise of migration. It therefore, seeks to examine the theoretical viewpoints on the impact of migration, in order to establish a stance for Africa with regards to this practice. The study employs a qualitative research methodology while in terms of design, it is exploratory in nature. The study concludes that, notwithstanding the negative repercussions associated with migration, conscious national and regional migration policies and protocols are eminent in bringing about the desired and anticipated benefits of migration to the continent of Africa. Furthermore, a theoretical review centered on the level of theoretical analysis, initiation and perpetuation of migration, and the opposing views of the optimist and pessimist migration perspectives. The study relies on existing literature as main sources of data for analysis and discussions. The findings reveal the predominance of intra-regional migration in Africa influenced chiefly by socioeconomic and political factors. Therefore the study recommends that, African governments should make efforts to create employment opportunities for their citizens and ensure good governance to prevent conflicts.
