Abstract

Comparative study of the relationship between the performance of students in shorthand and typing
was conducted by statistical analysis of results of 84 students of secretarial studies in Akwa Ibom State
Polytechnic. The analysis shows that there was no significant difference between the performances of
students in typing and shorthand (t = 0.38333, n = 84, = 0.05). Correlation between the two set of
results was positive and significant (r = 0.54480, n = 84, =0.05). Effect size of d = 1.3 was obtained. The
performance of students in typing has been found to be related to the performance of students in
shorthand.
