This study evaluated the feeding preferences of Pterygoplichthys etentaculatus reared in captivity conditions. For the experiment, ten fishes were selected individually and subjected to 16 different vegetables to perform a preference test. Afterwards, they were monitored with the aid of a camcorder to record the feeding behavior. At the end of the experiment, they were submitted to nonparametric test Kruskal Wallis with post hoc Dunn (p<0.05) for feeding time data. Fish showed high acceptance for different vegetables not found in their natural diet. The eggplant had the most feeding time (477.1 ± 123.3 seconds), followed by pumpkin (417.4 ± 156.7 seconds) and then cassava (384.2 ± 130.1 seconds). There is a positive correlation (r=0.64) between feeding time and crude protein level from the vegetables influence on the feeding behaviour. Thus, Pleco can select its preferred vegetable in captivity.
