The study was conducted in Dawuro Zone Tarcha town from Oct 2020 to March 2021 to identify the constraints and opportunities of village poultry production. Data were collected through both primaries from questionnaires and secondary data from different relevant offices, published and unpublished source. Target numbers of household’s selected for the study were about 30 households. The result of the study indicated that the dominant flock structure in the study area is laying hen (26.6%) followed by cockerels (25%). The major source of poultry for farmers/respondents was from market (80%) and most of breeds of poultry were local/indigenous. The main purpose of keeping poultry was mainly for consumption (53.3%). Farmers use traditional medicine to treat chickens (60%) from disease. The majority of respondents identified predator and disease as their major constraints followed by low production and productivity as minor constraints. The major opportunity of village chicken production in the study area was market access followed by feed access, credit service and extension service according to the order of importance. It was concluded that majority of practice conducted by the respondents in the study area was mostly traditional system starting from housing to production system.
