Community policing plays a crucial role in enhancing safety and security by fostering collaboration between law enforcement and the public. A well-structured community policing system ensures effective information sharing, positive community attitudes, and active participation in local security management. However, challenges related to implementation and awareness can hinder its effectiveness. This study examines the structure of community policing in the Addis Ababa City Administration and its role in maintaining community safety and security. It focuses on community policing initiatives, information-sharing mechanisms, and public perceptions of local security management practices. A descriptive case study approach was employed, targeting a population of 328 respondents from three sub-cities: Arada, Kirkos, and Addis Ketema. Stratified random sampling was used, and data were collected through structured questionnaires. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics to assess the effectiveness of community policing structures. Findings indicate that while community policing initiatives exist on paper, their implementation remains weak. Information-sharing mechanisms between law enforcement and community members are limited, and there is a lack of structured local security management practices. These gaps affect the overall effectiveness of community policing in maintaining safety and security. The study highlights the need for improved interaction between the police and the community to strengthen trust and collaboration. Enhancing public awareness and fostering proactive engagement can significantly contribute to crime prevention and overall security management. This study provides insights into the structural challenges of community policing in Addis Ababa, emphasizing the need for practical implementation strategies to improve safety and security. To enhance community policing effectiveness, law enforcement agencies should actively engage with residents, improve information-sharing mechanisms, and conduct awareness campaigns. Encouraging community participation will help build trust and ensure better security outcomes.
