Abstract
This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program in reducing poverty in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The study employed primary data and a descriptive survey design, sampling 52 respondents. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire. The findings revealed that LEAP has been moderately beneficial, contributing to a 38.5% reduction in the poverty rate. The poverty reduction was found to be particularly significant among the elderly in the municipality. Beneficiaries used LEAP funds to purchase books, shoes, clothes, and other educational materials for their children, as well as to buy medication and undergo medical check-ups. The study concluded that the implementation of LEAP in the Oforikrom Municipality has improved the conditions of its beneficiaries. It recommended increased sensitization and advocacy both within the municipality and nationwide through the mass media. Furthermore, the LEAP program should remain free from political affiliations, and key stakeholders should seek additional funds or grants to ensure the program's continued success.
Key words: LEAP programme, Oforikrom municipal, poverty reduction.
