n-Hexane serves as a non-polar solvent extensively utilized in the food and pharmaceutical sectors for the extraction of compounds from medicinal plants. Here, we compile research from 2000 to 2024 on various impacts of n-hexane extracts, their biological activities, and potential therapeutic effects, such as reversing liver toxicity and ameliorating kidney damage, and lung disorders. In the context of cancer, n-hexane extracts showed a potent anti-growth impact on lung cancer cell lines and induced apoptosis in cervical cancer cells. They helped arrest human cervical carcinoma cells in the G1 phase. They also showed promise in treating pancreatic disorders by lowering blood glucose levels. Furthermore, the extracts reduced macrophage infiltration and lipid peroxidation and restored ovarian function in polycystic ovary syndrome and ovarian cancer. Neuroprotective studies exhibit anxiolytic effects, inhibit glioblastoma, and stimulate differentiation in neuroblastoma. This review underscores the potential contribution of n-hexane extracts to therapeutic advancements in various medical applications.
