Current status of Pakistan coastal zone and management strategies toward sustainable development of marine and coastal resources

This paper identifies and examines the integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) problems and environmental issues of the coastal zone of Pakistan. The study also evaluated management strategies and progressive perspectives of enactment legislations, public participation, capacity building, organizational arrangement and scientific research institutions of Pakistan. The government of Pakistan has made various kinds of policies and legislation on fisheries and environmental protection. A higher number of national and provincial departments deal with coastal and ocean affairs. There is not any solo responsible authority within the country to deal with all affairs of the coastal zone. In view of the above-mentioned contents, the integrated coastal zone management in Pakistan is a challenging issue, facing many difficulties. Finally, recommendations have been raised to tackle with these issues for integrated coastal zone management of Pakistan.
