Biplot analysis of multi- environment yield trial of bread wheat genotypes growing in Tigray Northern, Ethiopia

The adaptation nature and pattern of a variety is important in variety recommendation to target environment. Nineteen bread wheat varieties were tested across sixteen environments of Tigray with the objective of identifying higher yield and stable variety across wider environments. The experiment was carried out in randomized complete block design. The combined analysis of variance revealed significant difference for genotype, environment and genotype by environment interaction. The relative magnitude of the environment was 54.8 greater than the genotype main effect and 8.4 greater than the genotype by environment interaction. The multiplicative model of the GGE biplot also further divided in to seven significant principal components and the seven significant principal components cumulatively explained 93.6% of the total variation. Using Polygon view of the GGE biplot the sixteen environments fall in to six sectors and G19, G2, G17, G9, G1 and G3 were wider adapted genotypes. G7, G10, G12, G16, G18 and G15 were specifically adapted genotypes located in the vertex. The testing environments E13, E1and E2 were with higher vector length that had good potential to discriminate the genetic potential of the genotypes and representative having smaller angle from the average environment axis
