Small-scale commercial poultry farms are the major chicken production system dominated in Bishoftu, town. According to preliminary survey conducted in Bishoftu, small-scale poultry farms are not productive as expected. Therefore, this study was aimed to assess the main challenges of small-scale poultry farms in Bishoftu, Ethiopia. A cross-sectional study was carry out from March 2021 to June 2021 using questionnaire survey and on site investigation, 75 small-scale commercial poultry farms were randomly selected and 225 individuals were purposively selected and interviewed to assess the main challenges of small- scale commercial poultry farms in Bishoftu, Ethiopia. Based on this study, high cost and shortage of feed, lack of improved breeds of chicken, land problem, lack of agricultural extension, lack of veterinary service, electric disturbance, high initial investment, poor quality feed, poor credit facility, high cost of medication and lack of market linkage were the main challenges of small-scale poultry farm in Bishoftu, Ethiopia.
So, the local government administration should involve and committed to alleviate the identified problems to make the poultry farms more productive in the area.
