Abstract

Measurement of atmospheric winds in troposphere and stratosphere regions is an essential component in understanding atmospheric processes. However, providing stratospheric winds is difficult as the instruments like radars and lidars are complex. An incoherent Doppler lidar system with large telescope aperture and operating in visible wavelength is being developed to meet the objective. Simulations have been carried out for different ranges in the atmosphere, for different techniques and for different atmospheric conditions using well known formulations to arrive at optimum performance levels that are required for scientific community. Lidar system configuration and specifications have been arrived at accordingly.
