The changing roles of libraries and information centres in an age of technology: an empirical study of the major libraries in the capital city of Osun State, Nigeria.

The article examines the traditional and digital connecting information from the various links that bring about roles of the Libraries and Information Centres which have played a major role during the digital age. This highlights the various ways through which information is brought to the users or the clienteles. Various roles of libraries and information centres are duly examined; putting the libraries in a strategic position for information gathering and dissemination even in the digitalisation of flow of information. Findings showed that much still needed to be done to make libraries cum information centres relevant in the age of information technology. Librarians of the eight (8) major libraries in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State, Nigeria have been used for this research work; using questionnaire and oral interview to generate response in respect of their changing roles of libraries and information centres in an age information technology. The findings revealed were analysed and discussed using simple percentages. The results of the findings were quite revealing; making it pertinent for the researcher to suggest how librarians, libraries and information centres can be relevant in the age of information technology.
