Abstract

Particleboard surfaces of 18 mm were coated with Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.), oriental beech (Fagus orientalis L.) and sessile oak (Quercus petraea L.), wood veneers, were splotched with urea formaldehyde (UF), polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), contact (rubber adhesive) and gluten glues. Then, these surfaces were colored with wood stains of aniline, chemical {(tannin) (C14H10O9) + potassium bichromate (K2Cr2O7)} and concentrated aniline (eco - color). The same coloring was also applied to the control samples on which no glue splotches were formed to study the effect of glue splotches on coloring. In this study, Minolta Cr - 231 Tristimulus colorimeter was used and color changes were determined according to the principles set forth in ASTM D 2244 – 07 e1. In conclusion, the coloring of the surfaces splotched with PVAc and contact adhesive with the use of chemical stain has led to discoloration prominently on the surfaces of pine materials.
