Abstract
The minimum mean squared error (MMSE) based linear receiver used with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, is considered to be the optimum as it jointly cancels out noise and interference. The MMSE receiver maximizes the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and minimizes the bit error rate (BER). In this paper, the concept of fractional domain based optimum MMSE receiver is proposed. The proposed receiver further minimizes the MSE as compared to conventional receiver thereby improving the performance of linear MMSE receiver. It is shown through simulation that for a 2 × 2 MIMO system, at block error rate (BLER) of 10-1, the FOLR improves the performance of the system by 3.7 and 4.5 dB as compared to frequency and time domain MMSE receiver.
Key words: Fractional optimum linear receiver (FOLR), fractional Fourier transform (FRFT), minimum mean squared error (MMSE), quasi-static.
