Abstract

The disposal of wastewater treatment-plant solids collected from the paper-mill has become a crucial problem as the landfill space is limited. The use of paper-mill residuals in concrete formulations was investigated as an alternative to landfill disposal. Currently, there is still lack of information on the effect of fresh properties of residual concrete. Furthermore, the effect of class F fly ash on fresh properties of residual concrete is not yet discovered. The fresh properties of concrete containing paper-mill residuals and class F fly ash were investigated by different workability tests, fresh concrete unit weight and air content tests. The influence of the variables such as superplasticizer dosage, water/cementitous material ratio, residual content, and fly ash content on the workability tests was revealed in this study.
