The article briefly reviews the different pragmatic approaches of informal settlement interventions, Ethiopian context regulatory frameworks and practical experience on curbing informal settlement and poverty problems based on comprehensiveness and sustainable livelihood capital asset theoretical framework. The article also reviews the sub-groups differences in access and control over sustainable livelihood capital assets. Accordingly, the objective of the research is to analyze the pattern of nexus in deprivations of sustainable livelihood capital assets by sub-groups based on Addis Ababa informal settlement case study areas and suggest policy recommendations for enhancing the control and access of the poor on sustainable livelihood capital assets. The research performs systematic random sampling supported with statistical tools and GIS analysis methods. The research performs mainly quantitative statistical testing and analysis enriched with in-depth individual case studies in some parts. The case study areas of Addis Ababa are Wereda 07 (inner city-slum) in Addis-Ketema sub-city and Wereda 03 (peri-urban) in Kolfe Keranyo sub-city. The findings indicated the statistically significant associations or correlations between indicators of deprivations of sustainable livelihood capital assets enriched with individual case study. The aforementioned result led to the deduction that there is nexus between deprivations of sustainable livelihood capital assets, whereas the control and access of livelihood capital asset varied by sub-groups. Accordingly, it is high time to use the framework of deprivations in access and control on sustainable livelihood capital assets as basis for comprehensive assessment and integrating people and place-based interventions in informal settlements upgrading and poverty reduction and ultimately realize sustainable urbanization
