Abstract

γ-Alumina supported cobalt (4 wt%) and cobalt-lanthanum with different lanthanum content (2,4 and 6 wt%) have been used as catalysts for methanol conversion. The catalysts were physically characterized using: X-ray diffraction technique, hydrogen temperature programmed reduction (TPR) and BET surface area measurements. The results established the formation of Co3O4 and LaCoO3 oxide phases. The catalytic behavior of the prepared catalysts was investigated under atmospheric pressure in a pulse micro-reactor operating between 200 to 300°C and a nitrogen carrier gas flow 50 ml/min. The hydrocarbon-converted products discriminate the role of the different formed oxide phases of cobalt and lanthanum on the catalytic behavior of methanol conversion.
