Locally non-polymeric de-emulsifier (LNPFD) was formulated using locally available additives. The non-polymer de-emulsifier formulated was compared with the most common conventional de-emulsifier used in the Niger Delta oilfields. The two de-emulsifiers were subjected to the same condition of heat and chemical treatment at 60℉ in a time interval of 1 to 30 minutes after heating for 2 hours. Result showed that locally formulated de-emulsifier was more effective than the conventional de-emulsifier (patented SERVO). The volume of separated water was appreciated in 20 minutes. When 0.2ml dosage of each de-emulsifier was used under the same condition, locally formulated de-emulsifier separated 0.4ml of water in 20minutescompared to 0.03ml of water separated in using the conventional de-emulsifier for the same 20minutes (Table3.1 and Table 3.2). With a dosage of 0.8ml the volume of water separated in 20minutes was 0.6ml for locally formulated de-emulsifier while that of the conventional de-emulsifier was 0.3ml.
