Abstract

In the present research the efficiency of the production of guava in the region of Zitacuaro, Michoacan, Mexico, through data collected from 147 producers in twenty localities using ten reference variables was analyzed. Being that the aim was to identify the variables that affect in the efficiency of the production of guava as well as to determine which localities turn out to be efficient with respect to the used inputs and outputs obtained. For this propose, analysis of data envelopment (DEA) was used to measure each decision unit evaluated in relation to other homogeneous units, where the value taken for each location efficient for every locality indicates the diversion observed with regard to those considered to be efficient. In the results it was observed that the only localities that showed technical global efficiency, technical pure efficiency and scale efficiency are: The Guayaba, The Port of Jungapeo, Jungapeo de Juarez, Timbucatío's Port, Rancho López Ríos and Rancho Viejo, with constant returns.

Key words: Efficiency, guava, data envelopment (DEA).
