ASSESSMENT OF IMPACT OF COUNSELLING ON ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS ACQUISITION AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN NASARAWA STATE

The study assessed the impact of counseling on entrepreneurial skills acquisition among university students in Nasarawa state. Three objectives were raised and later translated to research questions. Three research hypotheses were formulated and tested. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. A sample of 600 final-year university students was drawn from the population of 5,600 students. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire titled “Counselling and Entrepreneurship Skills Acquisition Instrument” (CESAQ) designed by the researchers. The data collected were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. Mean and standard deviations were used to answer the research questions while research hypotheses were tested using chi-square at a 0.05 level of significance. It was found among others that there was significant impact of counseling services on entrepreneurial skills acquisition among university students in Nasarawa state. Based on the findings, it was recommended that, adequate counseling services should be given to the university students to equip them with the necessary entrepreneurial skills so that it will help them to be entrepreneurs after graduation.
