Choice of fertilizer mainly depends on minerals used in the fertilizer production, geological rock formation and soil type of the farmland. In present time, Ethiopian farmers uses different type of fertilizer for many soil types and geological rocks that have different chemical characteristics. This way of using fertilizer is manually controlled and can cause mismatching of soil character with suitable fertilizer type. Therefore, this research will solve the mismatching of soil characteristics and type of fertilizer used by developing fertilizer selection system. The objectives of this paper is to know farmers farmland soil characteristics and identify the mineral deficient on the soils. Based on the mineral deficient on the soil suitable fertilizer will select by using developed fertilizer selection system. The farmers can know the soil type of their farmland and the best fertilizer for their soil. In the selected localities of Raya Azebo and Enderta, northern Ethiopia ten soil profiles were sampled and described during the survey. From the study five soil types were identified based on geochemical analysis. According to world reference base soil classification (WRB) the identified soil groups are Fluvisol, Vertisol, Calicsol, Cambsol and Luvisol. Soil mineral nutrients especially (Nitrogen, Phosphors, Sulfur, iron, Zinc and Boron) are found to be scarce in the investigated soils. The study also defines three type of fertilizers (NPSFeZn, NPSZn, and NPSFeZnB) suitable for the identified soils (Fluvisol, Vertisol, Calicsol, Cambsol and Luvisol). In this study fertilizer selection system were also established using the Knowledge Management System Life Cycle (KMSLC) method, and applied using net based application which can choices fertilizer based on and soil and fertilizer knowledge.
