Abstract

The expression of Kiss-1 and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) proteins and their effect on pathogenesis, development and metastasis in colorectal carcinoma were investigated. To clarify the correlation between the expression of Kiss-1 and MMP-9 with different indexes and clinicopathologic characteristics by immunohistochemistry (IHC), 67 cases of colorectal carcinoma tissue were collected as experimental group as well as 22 cases of normal colorectal mucosa tissue collected as control group in this study. In colorectal carcinoma tissue, the expression of MMP-9 was higher and that of Kiss-1 lower than in normal tissue. Their expression was related with tumor invasive depth and lymph node metastasis. Furthermore negative correlation between Kiss-1 and MMP-9 were found in colorectal carcinoma tissue, and the expression of Kiss-1 and MMP-9 were related to patients’ prognosis. These results indicated that Kiss-1 and MMP-9 may promote the development of colorectal carcinoma jointly, and the joint detection may be helpful to predict the prognosis in colorectal carcinoma.
