‘A kasa’, ‘A Tsare’ ‘A Raka’, aKuma‘Jira’ (Vote, Guard, Escort and Wait until Results are announced): The Buhari’s Political Campaign Speech and Slogan in Perspectives

Campaign speeches are vital tools which politicians use to express their views and feelings to the electorates with views to convincing, appealing, changing or reshaping and redirecting the electorate opinions to agree with theirs. It is usually laden with emotion and has the effect of causing the electorate to have a change of mind on some issues. Since Buhari’s metamorphosis into politics, a new era of campaign speech emerged with solid vibration into mind. It is against this background that this paper examines campaign speeches in broader sense. Buhari’s biography at glance, Buhari and politics in perspective are also part of this paper discussion. His popular political campaigns speech and slogan of ‘Akasa’, ‘Atsare’, ‘Araka’ and a‘jira’ (Vote, Guard, Escort and Wait until Results are announced) and their strong defense mechanism against election rigging are also discussed in this paper. President Buhari and delicate challenges of Nigerian state affairs form the concluding part of this paper.
