There was a global attention on Nigeria in the runoff to the 2015 general election given the implications of the outcome of the election not only for Nigeria but for Africa as a continent. This is because of the history of electoral violence in Nigeria, and the near state collapse in the country due to the Boko Harram insurgency in the north-eastern part of Nigeria. Thus, the successful conduct of the election would not only consolidate democracy in the country, but has implications for the survival of Nigeria as a geopolitical entity. The paper examines the roles and activities of election monitoring organizations in the successful conduct of the 2015 general elections. The paper is qualitative research method. The paper argues that election monitoring is significant to the success of democratization processes by ensuring transparency and accountability in the conduct of elections. It also makes some recommendations on how to improve on the election administration and monitoring in Nigeria.
