Abstract
An environmental policy is a written statement describing an organization’s mission in relation to environmental impacts of its operational activities. However, many industries of developing country fail to implement their environmental policy. The problem also manifested in certain industrial parks of Ethiopia. Hence, this study intended to examine environmental management policies, practices and compliance in the Eastern Industrial Park of Dukem, Ethiopia. The study used qualitative approach using both primary and secondary data. On the other hand, purposive sampling was used to take the required sample. The target population of this study was the informants of selected government sectors and industries of Eastern Industrial Park. Structured interview question was designed to the informants. The qualitative data was analysed using thematic analysis. Tables, figures and charts were used for data presentation. Although industries in the industrial park had their own company environmental policy, however, there was limitation in documenting and implementing their environmental policy in their environmental management activities of the companies. The companies designed their policy merely to fulfil their requirement to the concerned authority. The findings revealed, the selected industries of Industrial Park not only fail to implement their policies but also limited in implementing the government and other international policies.
