Abstract

A compound has been isolated from Ulmus davidiana, which has been traditionally used as the folk medicine material in Asia, and was determined to be sesquiterpene ortho-naphthoquionone (Mansonone E) from spectral data such as UV, IR, MS and NMR spectrometry. This compound showed an inhibitory effect against topoisomerase I and anti-tumor activities at various leukemia cell lines, U937, K562, HL60 and THP-1 using hollow fiber assay.

Key words: Ulmus davidiana, topoisomerase I, hollow fiber assay, leukemia.
