A cross-sectional study was conducted from April 2021 to October 2021 with objective of estimating prevalence of mange mite in goats and associated risk factors of mange infestation in Kindo Koysha Woreda South West Ethiopia. Totally, 384 systematically randomly selected goats were examined. Among the examined goats, 9.9% were infested by two species of mites. The identified mites were Sarcoptes scabiei var caprae and Demodex var caprae in goats. Among risk factors, significant variation was observed on body condition of goats (P = 0.018) and the highest prevalence was recorded in goats with poor body condition (20.58%) compared to animals with medium (12.24%) and good body condition scores (6.4%). However, no significant association was observed in prevalence of mange mite according to locality, sex and age of examined animals p=0.479, p=0.478 and p=0.605 respectively. The distribution of infestation on animals’ body were (28.94% n=11) in the inner thigh of legs, (13.16% n=4) in the legs, (18.42% n=7) in the neck, (15.8% n=6) in the head and (23.68% n=9) were mixed infestation. Mange mites especially Sarcoptes species were major disease of goats in the study area, so the owners should be advised to improve their management and use mite control in goats regularly in the area.
