Influence of water deficit and genotype on photosynthetic activity, dry mass partitioning and grain yield changes of winter wheat
Pn-PAR response curves, gas exchange, dry mass partitioning and grain yield of four different genotypes of wheat were investigated in a randomized complete block design under different watering regimes (85, 55 and 25% FC). The results indicated that genotype differences existed in the adaptation response to water deficit which included change to growth strategies coupled with photo-physiological strategies....

Pyrolysis of Diglycidyl ether of Tetrabromobisphenol A (DGETBA) using molten salt and its reaction kinetics
Diglycidyl ether of Tetrabromobisphenol A (DGETBA) is mainly for making copper clad laminate (CCL), which is the base of printed circuit board (PCB) in Taiwan. If not properly treated and disposed, waste printed circuit board would make the already polluted environment worse. The objective of this study is to pursue the chemical reaction kinetics for pyrolysis of DGETBA by molten salt. The molten salt used in...

Effective parameters on farmers’ participation in plans to combat desertification (PCDs)
The aim of this survey was to analyze the effective parameters on participation of farmers in plans to combat desertification In Taraznahid located in state of Markazi, in which 179 farmers were selected as the sample through a multi-stage sampling applying Cochran’s formula. The information were gathered through questionnaires and the validity of them was confirmed according to attitudes of the...

Water balance of Gorganrood river basin East of Iran
Recent development of geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing technology makes it possible to capture and manage a vast amount of spatially distributed hydrological parameters and variables. In this paper, a spatially distributed hydrologic model (WetSpa) is used to estimate daily river flow discharge and to analyze water balance of the Gorganrood river basin, Iran. The model...

Accounting reform of agricultural cooperatives: A boost to improve efficiency of accounting system of financial information
This paper is based on the fact that the adoption of the current general accounting plan (PGC) 2007 and its entry into force in 2008 has changed the framework for the standardized presentation of accounting information of Spanish agricultural cooperatives. So, the sector accounting adjustment for the cooperative entities contained in the Order of December 16, 2003 has required a deep review under the...

Productivity growth, technical efficiency, and technical change in China’s soybean production
A stochastic frontier production function (SFPF) is specified to examine productivity growth, technical efficiency, and technical change in China’s soybean sector. A panel data set of 12 major soybean-producing provinces across the nation during the period of 1983 to 2007 was used. Results indicate that total factor productivity for China’s soybean production increased by 1.5% annually, with...

A comparison of the revenues of wheat producers in Turkey: A case of EU member and non-member status with spatial reference to Central Anatolia Region
This study aimed to present a comparison of the revenues of Turkish wheat producers with the ones in EU, based on Turkey’s probable EU member and non-member status. The data of the study were based on 104 questionnaires acquired from the conducted surveys in the Central Anatolia Region in the period of 2008 to 2009. The revenues of wheat producing holdings in Turkey were below the revenues of the ones...

Analysis of energy use for banana production: A case study from Turkey
This study was undertaken to evaluate the energy inputs for banana production, to identify the highest energy consuming operations, and to examine the energy equivalents of inputs and output in banana production in the Mersin province of Turkey. Data were collected from 89 banana growers via a questionnaire. Results showed that the total energy inputs were 51560.05 MJha-1 and outputs were 98024.88...

Effect of area and geometric constraints on altitudinal patterns of angiosperm plant richness in Mt. Taibai, the Qinling Mountains, China
The altitudinal distribution patterns of angiosperms in Mt. Taibai, Qinling Mountains, China, were examined based on data of regional flora and Digital Elevation Model. Possible factors determining the distribution, such as geographical area effect and mid-domain effect (MDE) were assessed. The richness and density at species, genus, and family levels showed a hump-shaped pattern along the altitudinal...

Functional compounds and antioxidant properties of dried green and red peppers
The effects of drying on chemical composition and functional compounds, including ascorbic acid, phenolics and carotenoids of hot-air-dried green and red peppers, were investigated. Drying significantly affected the dry matter, ash, pH, titritable acidity and chlorophyll values (p < 0.01). The rehydration ratios of the dried green and red peppers at 45°C were 5.57 and 4.27, respectively, and the...

Effects of fungicides on in-vitro pollen germination, tube growth and morphology of almond (Prunus dulcis)
Eight fungicides namely Sumi-eight, Cupravit, Karatane, Topsin-M, Vitavax thiram, Beam, Benlate and Tecto at commercially recommended concentrations and at double concentrations were evaluated for their effects on pollen germination, tube growth and morphology of almond cultivar (Ferragness) in basic medium or control (100 mg L-1 boric acid, 15% sucrose and 1% agar) at 24°C in dark condition. Results...

Optimizing seed germination threatened endemic species of the Persian shallot (Allium hirtifolium boiss.)
Persian shallot grows as a wild plant in Zagros Mountain. In this experiment, attempt was made to study the different aspects of Allium hirtifolium Boiss germination for the first time in controlled laboratory conditions. In the first experiment, treatments were 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks of stratification. In the second experiment, seeds were imbibed in 0, 500 and 1000 ppm GA3 for 12 h and...

Determination of the optimum frequency for Elaeis guineensis Jacq. detachment
In Elaeis guineensis Jacq (oil palm) industry, fruit detachment and oil extraction of oil palm bunches are always being carried out in palm oil mill in a series of standard procedure. A lot of energy is needed and consumed throughout the procedure, especially during sterilization where a huge amount of energy is needed to produce pressurized steam in order to cook the fruit bunches, only to soften...

ISSR-based genetic diversity of Casuarina spp. in coastal windbreaks of Taiwan
The Genus Casuarina is a coastal plant distributed throughout South East Asia, Australia, and the Pacific islands. In Taiwan, more than 10 species of Casuarina have been introduced based on the proposition that these drought tolerant, fast growing trees would be suitable for windbreaks and would help stabilize coastal sand. The genetic diversity of three Casuarina species grown...

Comparison of the survival and growth performance in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) fry
Rainbow trout is an intensively cultured species because of their more cultivable character than brown trout. Culture of brown trout could not be expanded due to low growth performance of brown trout compared to rainbow trout. This experiment was conducted in a commercial trout farm, Aegean area (Turkey). Growth performances and survivals of rainbow and brown trouts from fry to fingerling was observed for 155...
