Assess the impact of climate change on vegetation using remote sensing

farzad TAGHIZADE

Drought is a natural phenomenon in nature is purely coincidental . Therefore, to determine the severity and extent of drought index used .In this study, the efficacy of sensor data MODIS, in the estimation of the drought of 2000 to 2014 in Lake Urmia Watershed in Iran were studied . The main measure of data from MODIS, Terra satellite of monthly precipitation data were used . The TCI and VCI parameters were studied. NDVI was used to obtain the VCI . NDVI bands 13 and 16 is obtained . TCI also to calculate the brightness temperature of band 31 was used from 2000 to 2014 drought maps for these indicators was obtained . The two indices were different because , to determine the effectiveness of these measures , the SPI was 3 months for 2014 this indicator was calculated on the time scale . TCI and VCI values in the following indices in 2014 were extracted from the images and the correlation between them . VCI correlation with the SPI is 0.7 and TCI correlation with SPI 0.25. VCI significance level was acceptable . According to the results , VCI and MODIS images can be a good alternative for meteorological indexes to estimate the drought and the fact that the images monthly ratio meteorological approaches have advantages such as the number of sampling points higher , wider coverage , temporal resolution higher and lower costs using remote sensing is recommended.
