This research gives an understanding to identify common tick species, which infest Afar cattle. Total of 3922 ticks were randomly collected from selected districts of Afar Region, Ethiopia. Generally, four genera of ticks were found: Abmlyomma, Rhipiciphalus, Hyaloma and Boophilus sub-type. The highest three ranking species are Rhipiciphalus pulchilis 34.5%, Rhipiciphalus evertsi 14.9%, Amblyoma hebraeum 13.5% and the least percentage goes to Rhipiciphalus simus 0.09%. The highest mean ± SD is Allolla district, species Amblyomma hebraeum 2.83 ± 5.03, Rhipiciphalus pulchilis 1.2 ± 2.79; Bokaytu district, species Rhipiciphalus pulchilis 2.59 ± 3.25, Dudub district species Rhipiciphalus pulchilis 3.62 ± 6.45; Gebeyabora district, species Rhipiciphalus evertsi 1.75 ± 2.41; Karbuda district, species Rhipiciphalus pulchilis 5.54 ± 6.22; Orasita district, species Hyaloma truncatum 1.62 ± 2.71. Examples of the lowest mean ± SD goes to species A.coreans, R.appendiculatus, Rsimus and sub-genus Boophilus in Karbuda district; Gebeyabora districts species Amblyomma variegatum and R. simus. Correlations between species of ticks are mostly weak negative, while few are positive but weak correlations. Strongest correlations were indicated in three species between genera Variegatum, while correlations between Hyaloma truncatum vs R.pravus, R.appendiculatus, R.pravus and Boophilus are medium.
