A brief background: The pandemic for the new coronavirus culminated in a scientific race in search of explanations about viruses, as well as treatment, vaccines, preventive strategies, in order to reduce the health, health and economy impact in the world.
Aim: The present study was carried out with the aim of analyzing the world scientific production of COVID-19.
Method / Design: This is an exploratory and descriptive study of the bibliometric type. ISI Web of Knowledge / Web of Science (WOS) was chosen as database. The collection was carried out in May 2020. The data analysis was performed using the HistCiteTM and VOSviewer bibliometric analysis software. 2,625 publications were identified that included in their scope the descriptors related to the research. The articles were published in 859 different journals indexed in the WOS, by 9791 authors who were linked to 3365 research institutions, located in 105 countries.
Conclution: To know the scientific productions through a bibliometric analysis is important to guide researchers on what has already been produced and what is being researched, in addition to addressing the existing gaps for future research.
