Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate Turkish high school students’ attitude and anxiety levels towards mathematics. For this purpose, the methodology employed in this study was a descriptive study. The participants of the study consisted of 361 high school students from three different high school types from a province in Turkey during 2014-2015 fall term. The Mathematics Attitude Scale developed by AÅŸkar and the Mathematics Anxiety Assessment Scale adapted to Turkish by Akın et al. were used as the measuring instruments. The data was quantitatively analysed by using independent samples t-tests and one-way ANOVA. Findings showed that gender and class levels had no significant effect on the students’ attitude and anxiety levels towards mathematics, whereas school type had significant effect on the attitude and anxiety.
